Um panorama da implantação do etanol de 3ª geração como uma fonte de energia sustentável

Resumo

A necessidade crescente por alternativas de fontes de energia limpa tem intensificado as pesquisas sobre o assunto, principalmente quando se trata de combustíveis, a procura por redução da taxa de gases responsáveis pelo efeito estufa torna necessária a substituição dos combustíveis fósseis por combustíveis limpos e renováveis, porém o obstáculo encontrado na produção dos biocombustíveis mais comuns atualmente é o fato de competir com a produção de alimentos e necessitar com isso de grandes áreas para o cultivo. Uma terceira opção mostra, através de pesquisas, ser uma alternativa viável para a produção de combustíveis. A produção de biocombustíveis de terceira geração, a partir do cultivo de algas, além de necessitar menos recursos, tais biocombustíveis emitem um teor menor de gases poluentes. A produção desse biocombustível tem sido alvo de muitos estudos, porém poucos projetos pilotos. Entre os biocombustíveis produzidos a partir das algas, o etanol representa um produto com grande impacto, por conta da sua demanda no mercado, e pela produção atual estar limitada, tornando o viés do etanol a partir da fermentação da biomassa da alga uma alternativa possível para a demanda desse tipo de combustível.
