Resumo

The purpose of this article is to report modifications that made environmentally more friendly operationsof purchasing, supply and use of adhesives in the footwear industry. This process was called greening. Theresearch method was the case study. The changes were implemented in the conditions of use and applicationof adhesives, involving a focal and supplier company in the footwear industry. It was observed that the mainmotivators for greening industrial operations were social and legal pressures from consumers and supervisoryofficial organisms and the possibility of competitive advantage by reducing costs in industrial operations.Significant economic, social and environmental gains were observed. The main gains were: reduction of85% of the people exposed to the product, with high potential chemical dependency generator; reductionin the use of approximately 3,700 cans per year; and reduction in the emission of solvents volatilized intothe air at approximately 5,200 kilograms per month.
