Resumo

Since Industrial Revolution the world has faced tremendous social, economic and environmental changes. The accelerated economic growth with no concerns has caused serious damages such as poverty, unemployment and environment destruction. Overcoming these challenges can be possible through green growth, which is an economic tool whose main objectives are to integrate technological, economic and social development with the most adequate use of natural resources. Strategies and policies are fundamental to make that greener growth occurs, and public and private sectors of the society must work together. Public policies, educational campaigns, investments in innovation and technology and the adoption of the most appropriate strategy for each country’s development standard are crucial. Three countries with green growth programs are: Chile, Korea and Germany. Furthermore, Civil Engineers, which are qualified professionals, are required to lead necessary transformations. Hence, it is important to visualize green growth as a tangible and urgent need of the modern society.
