Mauss, religião e técnicas corporais: Estudo com alunos evangélicos da zona rural de uma escola pública de Minas Gerais/Brasil

Abstract

In this work we studied how religious belonging affects the body practices of students of the final years of elementary and high school during Physical Education classes in a school in the rural area of the municipality of Minas Novas, State of Minas Gerais, Brazil. During this study, students with self-declared religious adherence to the evangelical church Assembly of God were accompanied. A qualitative study was conducted between the years 2015-2016, revised in 2023, having as main theoretical references studies on body techniques and habitus, in order to observe, inventory and interpret alterities, that is, the ways in which students re-signify the body and to what extent they incorporate discourses and gestures related to the religious practice. The results indicated that, in the articulation between the subjective and the social, despite the influence of religious doctrine, it was not possible to identify a homogeneity of practices among the researched group. Other values, mores and the specific way each one lives and experiences the body, considering other cultural markers, seemed more important.
