Abstract

This paper analyzes the relationship between golf and elites groups in Mexico during the twentieth century. The history of golf offers a vast array of elements to study the connection between foreign investment and Mexican elites, the desires and aspirations of affluent communities, as well as the role social codes played in the creation of social identities. In theoretical terms, this paper advances Norbert Elias’ concept of the habitus.
