Abstract

The objective of this study was to identify in the reports of the Folha de São Paulo (FSP), published between 2009 and 2016, which factors influenced the Olympic performance at the Rio 2016 Games. To achieve this goal were selected reports in a newspaper of wide national circulation that related to the theme Olympic performance, following the methodological guidelines of Cruz and Peixoto (2007). From the reading and analysis of these reports, some influencing factors were identified, such as sports culture, epidemic and host country status. Therefore, it was considered that the customs of a people, the variables of public health and the promotion of the event in the respective locality potentiate expectations and impacts in relation to the sporting performance of a nation in an Olympic competition.
