Abstract

This paper critically reviews the interpretations about the “economic miracle”, mainly intending to highlight the theoretical advances of the authors linked to the recently created (at the time) Economic Institute of Unicamp, as well as to question some aspects of these interpretations, based on more recent advances in effective demand macroeconomics. It criticizes interpretations which became virtually consensual such as the one that defends that the period’s income concentration had been functional or necessary to the high economic growth, and the one that the idle capacity prior to the growth’s acceleration was a favorable condition to such performance.
