FOCUS AND SCOPE

 arte :lugar :cidade is a biannual peer-reviewed scientific publication committed to research on art practices in public spaces. In accordance with the policies of open access to the production and dissemination of knowledge, arte :lugar :cidade is an inter-institutional publication, establishing a partnership between the Universidade Federal Fluminense, Universidade Estadual de Campinas, Universidade de Brasília, Universidade Federal do Espírito Santo, and Universidade de São Paulo - São Carlos.

Working in the expanded field of arts in public spaces, arte :lugar :cidade aims to publish articles, artistic essays, interviews and reviews, as well as thematic dossiers, which are committed to investigations that have the public space as a locus for the establishment of contemporary art. According to its editorial policy, arte :lugar :cidade prioritizes the publication of unpublished works arising from research carried out primarily in the academic sphere, without excluding investigations, productions and practices that take place in other scenarios. In this sense, the journal is committed to contributing to the training of artists, teachers, educators, historians and theoreticians in the field of the arts in its articulations with the political, social, economic and cultural issues that make up the complex scenario of social life in contemporary cities.

arte :lugar :cidade will have two annual editions (May and November), both online, with the collaboration of professors/researchers from Brazilian and foreign universities as reviewers through a double-blind evaluation. However, attentive to the new perspectives of open science, arte :lugar :cidade will provide authors and reviewers with the possibility of a frank and direct exchange in the process of evaluating submissions.

The journal uses resources to detect plagiarism in the material submitted for publication (CopySpider), in order to avoid the establishment of practices that are inappropriate to academic production.

 

JOURNAL STRUCTURE

arte :lugar :cidade is organized into the following sections:

- Dossiers - organized by invited guests, based on nominations from the Editorial Board and/or the Advisory Board

- Articles - submitted to the Editorial Board and evaluated by ad hoc reviewers

- Artist Essays - art projects developed especially for publication in arte :lugar :cidade

- Interviews - interviews with artists, researchers, theoreticians, among other professionals, who have a focus of interest and convergence with art practices in public spaces

- Reviews - of art projects, artistic actions, bibliographical productions, audiovisual material, among other possibilities, which are related to the presence of the arts in public spaces.

PEER REVIEW PROCESS

arte :lugar :cidade adopts a double-blind peer review system, with the collaboration of reviewers from Brazilian and foreign universities. After an initial assessment by the members of the Editorial Board regarding the relevance of the work and its suitability for the academic standards adopted by arte :lugar :cidade, each work submitted is forwarded to at least two (2) reviewers from outside the Editorial Board. In the evaluation process, the ad hoc reviewers indicate acceptance, rejection or suggest changes to the authors. If there are substantive disagreements in the recommendations of the reviewers, a third reviewer will be asked to collaborate in order to support the final editorial decision.

SUBMISSION AND PUBLICATION FEES

arte :lugar :cidade does not charge its contributors any fees, either for submitting work or for publishing it. In addition, with a commitment to facilitating access to knowledge, arte :lugar :cidade issues are made available immediately upon publication, with free access to its readers, without any charges or time constraints.

EVALUATION CRITERIA

The following aspects are taken into account when evaluating the articles submitted to arte :lugar :cidade:

(1) suitability to the scope of the journal, converging with interests related to art practices in public spaces
(2) originality of the reflection proposed by the work
(3) relevance of the issues and problems addressed, as well as their possible contribution to investigations of the arts in public spaces
(4) updating and relevance of bibliographic resources
(5) objectivity and clarity of expression, as well as the use of appropriate academic language.

Note: All submitted works go through the same evaluation process until the final editorial decision is made.

TIME FOR PROCESSING SUBMISSIONS

arte :lugar :cidade is committed to completing the entire process of evaluating the submissions and communicating the editorial decision to the authors in a period of no more than 15 weeks.

PERIODICITY

arte :lugar :cidade is a biannual online publication, with new editions in May and November.

OPEN ACCESS POLICY

arte :lugar :cidade offers immediate free access to its contents, in line with the principle that making artistic and scientific research freely accessible to the public contributes to a greater global exchange of ideas, as well as to the democratization of different forms of knowledge.


RESEARCH ETHICS

arte :lugar :cidade is committed to the best standards in academic research and fully adheres to research practices developed with absolute ethical rigor, as recommended in the Code of Good Scientific Practices of the São Paulo Research Foundation (FAPESP) and the Principles of Transparency and Good Practices in Academic Publications, developed jointly by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE), the Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ), the Open Access Scholarly Publishers Association (OASPA) and the World Association of Medical Editors (WAME).

In this sense, arte :lugar :cidade remains attentive to curbing ethical deviations that may be pointed out or detected throughout the research process and/or the dissemination of its results in the arte :lugar :cidade sphere. To this end, the Editors pay special attention to the ethical aspects of academic research and the production of knowledge that may have an impact on publication in the journal. This includes, among other issues: questions of authorship, collaboration and consent for publication; research carried out with/on vulnerable populations and/or social groups; ethical issues when involving research with animals or human subjects; and manipulation of data and results.


CONFLICTS OF INTEREST

arte :lugar :cidade seeks to identify and act upon any conflicts of interest throughout the submission, editing and publication processes involving authors, reviewers, editors and other collaborators, bringing together, whenever necessary, the Editorial Board in the search for appropriate solutions.


COMPLAINTS AND APPEALS

arte :lugar :cidade is committed to not neglecting any complaint or appeal that may be addressed to the journal, members of the Editorial Board or referees, examining the issues presented with due impartiality and impartiality.


CLARIFICATIONS AND RETRACTIONS

Whenever necessary, the Editors of arte :lugar :cidade will use the pages of the publication itself, always in its subsequent issue, for clarifications and/or retractions regarding ethical issues (or any other) that have arisen and have been duly analyzed within the scope of the journal.
