Abstract

Sport and public policies, not directed toward the professionalization of the sportive world (gainful sport), were approached within a social frame. It was intended to search the understanding why the sport in the end of century XX and beginning of the XXI gained an expressive dimension in the speeches and politic actions related to the social matters, mainly to the ones directed to youth formation. In order to understand this question, I invested in some fronts. First, I related the current moment with century XIX and beginning of the XX, period where the Physical Education was targeted by public policies, losing, gradually, its force for the sport. Afterwards, I focus the case of a sportive policy carried out in the city of Niterói producing, therefore, a perception of the concrete effects of a sportive intervention. Although comprising a circumscribed case, the Niterói example illustrates a national and international trend.
