Um estudo etnográfico do Projeto Grael

Abstract

The aim of this article is to reflect upon social projetcs offering sports as a mean of social development, considering the present context of consolidation of sports as public policy. The object of research was the Grael Project, based in the city of Niterói, Rio de Janeiro, wich offers sailing classes and nautical vocational courses to low-income youngsters. My central perspective was to try and understand the practice of this sport in this so-called social project, considering the dimension of profissionalization and the dimension of transmission of oral andor corporeal knowledge, through the sistematic observation of the regular sailing classes and the course of introduction to mechanical engines.
