Technoaesthetic standard as a barrier to entry
Limitations in broadcasting the 2023 Alagoan men's football championship
Abstract
The uneven development of football in Brazilian territory occurred with the reproduction of hegemonic political-economic fields, with greater visibility and investments for Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo. Alagoas is a symptom of this, with audiovisual transmission of the entire state championship only from 2007 onwards. In this scenario, research was carried out from 2008 to 2023 to understand the symbolic and economic importance of broadcasting the local tournament. Here, an excerpt is presented, the analysis of the exhibition of the 2023 Alagoan Men's Football Championship. This is research using the deductive method, which has a qualitative and quantitative analysis based on the Political Economy of Communication. The elements of the techno-aesthetic pattern reproduced by the audiovisual transmission are analyzed, at the same time that elements of stimulation of local identity are verified in the aesthetic elements and in the narrations. In addition, based on the opinion of local club fans, we will learn how the broadcast was evaluated regarding the following aspects: narration; image quality; appreciation of local clubs; and field reporting. In the case of a peripheral tournament, the effects of the lack of a better transmission structure to generate a greater identity as a media program can be seen, something that reflects the established aesthetic-productive barriers.
