Esse texto é a tradução do primeiro capítulo do livro “Lifeworlds: Essays in Existential Anthropology”, do antropólogo Michael Jackson, constituído por um conjunto de ensaios escritos entre 1989 e 2009. O capítulo “Escopo da Antropologia Existencial”, aqui traduzido, constitui-se de uma introdução, na qual o autor expõe sua abordagem antropológico-fenomenológica como contraponto às antropologias que fundam suas bases nas representações coletivas, sejam elas culturais ou sociais.
