Abstract

The objective of this study was to carry out the survey of available evidence regarding periodontal disease and the respective adverse gestational diseases. A search of the scientific literature was carried out on October 15, 2024, in the database of the National Library of Medicine National Institutes of Health (PubMed). Foram selected scientific articles published in the last 10 years, not in English. Além disso, a manual search was also carried out. The following DeCS/MeSH controlled thermometers were selected: “Pregnancy”, “Pregnant Women”, “Pregnancy Outcome”, “Periodontal Disease”, “Periodontal Diseases”, “Pregnancy Complications, Infectious”, “Prematurity” and “Infant, Low Birth” Weight”. In the initial search, a total of 2,142 articles were found on the PubMed website. After applying two filters and analyzing two titles and two summaries, foram included 21 articles, two quais 2 will result from manual search. The studies analyzed show the association between periodontal disease and adverse events in pregnancy, such as: premature birth, low birth weight, pre-eclampsia and spontaneous abortion. There is also evidence of positive correlation between the severity of periodontal disease and adverse diseases, or it seems that the risk of low birth weight and prematurity increases as the severity of periodontal disease increases.
