Abstract

The procedures of Orofacial Harmonization (OFH) require a high level of mastery in the field of anatomy by professionals, as they deal with delicate areas. This ensures their execution in a safe and effective manner. Objective: To discuss the general aspects involved in OFH, such as the procedures performed and professional training, as well as to emphasize the importance of facial anatomy within this framework. Methods: It was a descriptive and narrative study characterized as a literature review. The inclusion criteria were studies relevant to the topic, written in all the languages, without a time limit. The search was conducted between January and December/2024, through searching in the Pubmed, LILACS, SciELO bases, grey literature from Google Scholar and institutional sites. The Health Sciences Descriptors (DeCS/MeSH) were crossed using the Booleans operators, and a total of 52 references were included. Results: Facial Harmonization can be performed by various healthcare professionals and involves procedures using injectables and minimally invasive techniques. There is a need for more in-depth facial anatomy training in the courses offered on Orofacial Harmonization (OFH), as adverse effects and complications are not uncommon. This knowledge brings confidence and safety to professionals. Conclusion: Therefore, such expertise is crucial for building trust and proficiency in OFH, which ultimately enhances the success of the procedures. In this context, it is understood that this review serves as a starting point for the development of courses and studies aimed at advancing knowledge in facial anatomy.
