Abstract

Objective: This study aims to evaluate the efficacy and safety of short implants as an alternative for oral rehabilitation in different clinical situations, considering their indications, advantages, disadvantages and their relevance for contemporary dental practice. Methodology: A narrative review of the literature was carried out, with searches in the PubMed, Google Scholar and Scielo databases. Sixteen articles published between 2019 and 2024 were analyzed. Results and Discussion: Short implants showed success rates comparable to conventional implants, with advantages such as lower morbidity and reduced treatment time. However, their installation can be more challenging in low-density bones. Conclusion: Short implants are a viable alternative for patients with significant bone loss, providing good results with less invasiveness. Meanwhile, their success depends on several factors, including proper planning and sufficient osseointegration.
