Objective:This narrative review of the literature aims to analyze studies on implant and tooth extraction surgery for patients undergoing bisphosphonate therapy, more specifically alendronate, in order to guide clinical practice and reduce the risk of associated complications. Methods:The study performed a thorough analysis of 20 studies extracted from databases such as PubMed, Google Scholar and Scielo. Results:The analysis found that the use of alendronate can cause osteonecrosis after invasive dental procedures, such as implantology and tooth extraction. Conclusion:It is concluded that this complication can be avoided, mainly by planning how a medication can affect each specific procedure and adapting the surgery to each patient.
