Some Latin inscriptions, in translation and with annotations
Abstract
ABSTRACT:
Using a critical approach to translation, taking into account historical aspects in the original version, three Latin inscriptions are translated and commented upon. The first one is a tablet from Vispasca, from Roman Lusitania, relating to a public bath. The other two refer to military tablets from Vindolanda, from Roman Britain. The inscriptions refer to official procedures but also to processes of identity building, so that they are of special interest for those concerned with the Roman world.
Key-words:
Roman epigraphy – translation – Vipasca tablets – Vindolanda tablets.
