Abstract

In this article, we address the construction of the image of Octavian, using such a set of coins that will be analyzed chronologically and symbolically, demonstrating how Octavius will collecting over the years epithets and titles that will build your image. By investigating the literature on the early period of the Principate, we believe that is needed a survey which shows how Octavian came to power and how the symbolic repertoire that he added over the years helped him in this endeavor. We observed, in various manuals and articles, that Octavius is, sometimes, confused with Augustus, in the sense that certain authors are carried away by the Octavius "consolidated", not paying enough attention to identity construction processes, which are not simple and require representational huge effort.
