Abstract

The power of women in the courts during Late Antiquity, specifically in the Kingdom of the Franks during the reign of Clovis and the Roman Empire during the rule of Justinian is the theme of this text. The power exercised by women, Clotilde and Teodora respectively, both derived from the condition of wives of monarchs, but the influence they exercised over them. In our analysis we will use libris Decem Historiarum of Gregory of Tours and the Secret History of Procopius fundamental for understanding the mechanisms of memory building on these two female figures.
