Abstract

The Woman Suffrage Movement was part of the First-Wave Feminism and pursued the participation of woman in politics, especially regarding the right to vote, initiating structural changes in the occidental society, including in Brazil. In 2018, this movement celebrated 100 years, bringing the opportunity to a moment of reflection about the changes it caused and about the current situation of feminism. Looking into Brazil’s situation, in 2018, we also observe the federal and state elections, which allow us to see the Brazilian woman in politics nowadays. In this context, we find a huge presence of antifeminism, which contrasts with the bases of the suffragist movement. Therefore, this article aims to analyze the reason for the growth of this “anti-movement” by exploratory research, as well as its present use as a tool for gaining votes by candidates.
