Moments of crisis, such as COVID-19, expose inequalities and imply setbacks for women. To analyze these effects, in this article we problematize the maternal dispositif as an identity aspect that affects women's professional lives. Through the thematic oral history methodology, we listened to 11 workers, men and women. The results indicate that the pandemic has affected their work routines differently. However, only gender inequality and sexual division of labor cannot explain this impact. We identified motherhood as an identity characteristic, which is articulated with gender to structure subordinations and perpetuate disempowerment.
