Abstract

The objective was to demonstrate that the lesion of tooth resorption consists of a pathological process that affects permanent dental elements, especially in adult and elderly animals, and has been growing its expression in the canine species. Several and unclear etiologies, associated with underdiagnosis due to lack of radiographic examinations in routine examinations and professionals not specialized in the dental area, have allowed injuries to the external and internal structure of the tooth to undergo a resorptive process by clastic cells. It is often confused with or associated with periodontal disease. Diagnosis is based on clinical findings and intraoral radiography. Treatment depends on the stage of the disease, but tooth extraction is still the option that returns the animal's natural quality of life in the long run. The present report aims to report a case of a young, whole Dachshund canine complaining of halitosis, dysphagia, ptyalism, anorexia, dehydration, weight loss, lethargy, head meneios and sneezing, and the imaging exam presented several resorptive lesions, whose treatment promoted remission of all clinical signs and patient well-being. For the diagnosis of oral lesions in a more assertive way, it is essential to perform complete intraoral radiographic documentation, preferably by a specialist veterinarian who, because it requires general anesthesia of the patient, allows this protocol to be established in dental treatments.
