Abstract

The book Los Retos de la Globalización - Ensayos en Homenaje a Theotônio dos Santos, recently published by UNESCO in Caracas, and edited by Francisco López Segrera in two tomes, brings together works by some of the most prestigious contemporary thinkers, from various fields of knowledge of the social sciences and the various regions of the planet, around the impacts of globalization on the world system and theoretical paradigms. Produced with the aim of honoring the 60 years of Theotonium dos Santos, the book consists of four parts, which correspond to themes developed in the work of the honoree, in addition to an introduction on the whole of his life and work, a prologue performed by Raymundo Romeo, a note from the editor and a bibliography that collects the various contributions of the author in books, scientific journals and restricted publication materials. There are 30 authors and 895 pages of valuable analytical material on social thinking and the contemporary world. As the editor points out, in which they weigh the different perspectives of the essays and their plural, transdisciplinary and multifunctional character, the result of the work as a whole is a set of alternative reflections to the "unique thought" intended by the years of neoliberal hegemony in globalization. The conviction that humanity can build a better world if it plans its existence and wards off the threat of anarchy, chaos and uncertainty prevails throughout the book.
