Consumption culture study: ritual in food

Abstract

The scientific article addresses the relationship between food and culture and its evolution over time, not only as a nutritional need, but also with relevance to political, religious and anthropological aspects. It examines eating rituals from the dawn of humanity to the present day, showing how certain practices still persist. In addition, it discusses consumer culture and the importance of studying the Consumer Culture Theory (CCT) to understand the meanings attributed to food consumption. It emphasizes the presence of collective consumption rituals and the relationship between identity, culture and consumption. The study reveals the importance of rituals in understanding consumption. Document Analysis Methodology, with bibliographic survey in academic sources that address the relationship between CCT, food consumption and food consumption rituals. The results interpreted in the light of the concepts of the CCT and related theories, identified that in the ritual of food consumption they contribute to the understanding of consumption within the CCT.
