Abstract

The aim of this study is to analyze the relationship between firm size and economic growth in Brazil from 1996 to 2021. Using time series econometric techniques, the results obtained indicate the existence of a negative and statistically significant relationship between micro and small companies and economic growth, corroborating the arguments that these companies are characterized, on average, by entrepreneurship of necessity, which does not add innovation and qualification of the human capital employed. In the case of medium-sized companies and large companies, the evidence obtained corroborates the arguments of entrepreneurship through opportunity.
