Resumo

Esta pesquisa sobre comunicação política analisa o impacto da mídia digital na opinião pública no contexto dos protestos de 2019 em Hong Kong. Trata-se de um estudo qualitativo e interpretativo que observa como as pessoas participam de discussões políticas por meio das mídias sociais. A pesquisa tem como objetivo investigar as opiniões e expressões em torno do tema proposto, utilizando um estudo de caso como estratégia de pesquisa e adotando métodos como enquadramento e análise qualitativa de conteúdo. Questionamos se houve uma espiral de silêncio nas mídias sociais em relação aos protestos. Para responder a essa pergunta, analisamos manualmente 76 postagens na página do Facebook do South China Morning Post e 2.000 comentários públicos. A teoria da espiral de silêncio sugere que as pessoas tendem a reter suas opiniões quando percebem que a opinião pública é contrária a elas, e que o silêncio aumenta com o tempo. No entanto, esta pesquisa no Facebook sobre os protestos de Hong Kong em 2019 mostrou que uma minoria de detentores de opinião ficou em silêncio. Além disso, as pessoas com opiniões minoritárias começaram a expressar suas posições com o tempo, interrompendo a espiral. A pesquisa buscou avançar na compreensão da participação política pública nas mídias sociais, estudando o ambiente e o conteúdo das mídias. Esse contexto único no movimento do Projeto de Lei Anti-Extradição de Hong Kong tem um significado inovador, enriquecendo a pesquisa empírica sobre países orientais e fornecendo novas ideias para investigar a participação política não-eleitoral nas mídias sociais.
