GLOSSARY OF LATIN NAMES OF PLACES IN BRAZIL IN THE HISTORIA NAVIGATIONIS IN BRASILIAM

Abstract

This article aims to offer Librarianship professionals and other researchers some contributions for the recovery of information in rare works written in the Latin language. More specifically, we propose a glossary of Latin toponyms in Brazil in Historia Navigationis in Brasiliam, by Jean de Léry, to help professionals identify words that refer to Brazil in the mentioned work and in other works in Latin. This work resulted from the extension project “Núcleo de Documentação em Línguas Clássicas”, coordinated by teachers doctors Fábio Frohwein de Salles Moniz (UFRJ / NEC-FBN) e Rainer Guggenberger (UFRJ / NEC-FBN), carried out in partnership between the Fundação Biblioteca Nacional (FBN) ande the Faculdade de Letras da UFRJ. In the first part of this article, we contextualize the corpus of our work and the main resources used in its elaboration of the glossary. In the second part, we present the glossary, in which we have the words found in the referred work, followed by the information of grammatical class and definition.
