A VISIT TO THE MANUSCRIPT OF THE ROMANCE MEMORIAL DE AIRES

Abstract

This text described aspects of the critical-genetic study of the manuscript of the novel Memorial de Aires, by Machado de Assis, which was published in 1908. Among these aspects noted, we find numerous substitutions and deletions of words and excerpts that exemplify the process of creation of the novel until the version that became public, among which the change of names of the female characters stands out, especially D. Carmo and Fidelia.
