Abstract

In the establishment of an “intervention documentary” in Brazil, about thirty years ago, Eduardo Coutinho (1933-2014) played an essential role. Undoubtedly, the way the filmmaker reproduced human and social reality, articulating critical research and an ethical spirit, marked out a determinant aesthetic formulation for the praxis of the genre in our country. The recognition of his contribution was unanimous. And when the critics put him in the pantheon of the greatest creators of the genre, almost everyone started filming hurriedly “in the fashion of Coutinho”.
