Merleau-Ponty’s phenomenology and the theoretical and methodological potential for research in Geography

Among the many authors through which bridges are built between geography and phenomenology, there is Maurice Merleau-Ponty. Through the various statements contained in the works of Merleau-Ponty, in particular, those that indicate the notion of subject as a embodied consciousness, several potentialities of geographic research arise. Our proposal is, at first, to trace in depth the discussion of issues involving the body, space and intentionality from the perspectives enunciated by the author. In a second step, to highlight geographic researches already carried out those are based on the phenomenology of Merleau-Ponty. To do this, we selected the book “Phenomenology of Perception” to be discussed
in the first moment of the article. To trace the discussions of the second moment of the proposal, we will use searches on the CAPES Journal Portal, on the Scielo platform and on the Google Scholar platform and, thus, present the potential for
geographic research.
