GLOBALIZATION AND TERRITORIAL RELATIONS IN THE AGRICULTURE: PARTICULARITIES IN THE GROWTH OF SOYBEAN AND SUGARCANE IN THE STATE OF GOIÁS
Abstract: The aim of this paper is to analyze the distinctions in the territorial relations related to the moving of agribusiness into the regions of cerrado. Our focus is a comparative analysis between soybean and sugarcane in the State of Goiás. To verify the organization of these activities, we selected four variables: market size, relation with the transportation system, local generation of jobs, and local interaction with R&D activities. The paper is part of a discussion that argues about the heterogeneity of territorial relations in globalization process, showing, in agricultural development, forces that makes economic activities being more connected to the local or to long distance networks. The results indicate that in soybean the territorial relations based on external linkages are stronger, while the importance of internal linkages are higher in sugarcane production.
