Abstract

This paper aims to advance hypotheses on the predominantly segmented spelling for senão found in texts written by secondary school students. These hypotheses shall be grounded in considerations about the interpretative mechanisms triggered by constructions with senão, along with syntactic and phonological features. We shall argue that the written data for senão may be construed as a clue to representations of senses and morphosyntactic structures which, on one hand, retrieve previous stages of language, and on the other hand, provide evidence for the manifold ways the relationship between speech and writing is developed.

Author Biographies

Sanderleia Roberta Longhin, Universidade Estadual Paulista (UNESP)

É graduada em Licencitura em Letras pela Universidade Estadual Paulista Júlio de Mesquita Filho (1996), mestre em Lingüística pela Universidade Estadual de Campinas (1999), doutora em Lingüística pela Universidade Estadual de Campinas (2003), e concluiu pós-doutoramento em Lingüística pela Eberhard Karls Universität Tübingen (2010). Atualmente é professora assistente doutora da Universidade Estadual Paulista Júlio de Mesquita Filho, Campus de São José do Rio Preto. Atua na Graduação e na Pós-Graduação, na linha de pesquisa Variação e Mudança Linguística. Foi coordenadora do Programa de Pós-Graduação em Estudos Linguísticos (2011-2013). Coordena um subprojeto de pesquisa, no âmbito do projeto temático de equipe História do Português Paulista (PHPP). É bolsista de produtividade em Pesquisa do CNPq, tem experiência na área de Teoria e Análise Linguística, na linha de Variação e Mudança Linguística, investigando principalmente os seguintes temas: gramaticalização, junção, aquisição e história.

Luciani Ester Tenani, Universidade Estadual Paulista (UNESP)

Graduou-se Bacharel em Linguística pela UNICAMP (1990-1993). Fez Mestrado (1994-1996) e Doutorado (1996-2002) em Linguística, na subárea de Fonologia, na mesma universidade. É professora, desde 1997, da UNESP, câmpus de São José do Rio Preto (SP), onde ministra disciplinas para graduação (Licenciatura em Letras e Licenciatura em Pedagogia) e pós-graduação (Programa em Estudos Linguísticos). É bolsista de produtividade em Pesquisa do CNPq, desde 2010. Foi chefe do Departamento de Estudos Linguísticos e Literários (2004-2006). Tem experiência na área de Linguística, com ênfase em Fonologia do Português. Tem pesquisado e orientado dissertações e teses sobre os seguintes temas: fonologia da língua portuguesa (principalmente, sobre prosódia e processos segmentais) e fonologia e escrita (principalmente, sobre fonologia e ortografia; prosódia e pontuação).
