Abstract

Contemporary military missions evoke fruitful debates on international security and strategic studies, especially those in which the military is deployed internally, stirring a series of classic assumptions in these academic fields. In this book, Pion-Berlin analyses, through an extensive empirical research, missions that are performed by the military in Latin America, identifying their onus and bonus, and how this relates to civilian control and democratization in the region.
