BETWEEN EXISTENCE AND NON-EXISTENCE
THE POLITICAL USE OF PEOPLE ON THE MOVE IN THE CONTEXT OF THE BEAUTIFUL SOULS AND JUST WARRIORS’ MYTH
Keywords:
Refuge, Human Migration, Internacional Protection, western ethnocentrismAbstract
We place the definition of refugee term within the spatiotemporal context that limits it, exposing the ethnocentrism and western hegemonic traits that, historically, have permeated the standards of protection and eligibility criteria of the individual to be protected. As an inherent part of the process on building a refugee figure and categorizing people based on restricted and excessive state notions, many moving groups (inside and outside the “legitimate” refugee status) are placed outside the mechanisms of international protection, denied dignified access to human rights and an assistance that actually meets their needs.
