Frugal innovation has gained ground in academic and business circles in recent years. In this context, the objective of the study is to analyze the predisposition of winning companies of the National Innovation Award (PNI) for frugal innovation. For that, secondary data from the reports of the last three editions of the PNI and the qualitative analysis of these data were used. A total of 52 companies were analyzed. The results show that 39 companies showed at least one characteristic of frugal innovation and that "cost reduction" and "sustainability" are the predominant categories that indicate that companies are predisposed to frugal innovation.
