The purpose of this article is to analyze the stories and memories of payroll loans made by elderly people in Belo Horizonte. We used the convergences between historical and qualitative methodologies and triangulated 15 semi-structured narrative interviews with document analysis and field notebook notes. Starting from the Thematic Narrative Analysis, we present the results. We emphasize that the participants reveal in their memories the functioning of the debt system, highlighting the vulnerability of the elderly population in the face of the strategies of financial institutions. We contribute to the advancement of studies of social groups marginalized by the academic mainstream, highlighting subjects that are sometimes unseen and silenced.
