The study aims to investigate which organizational learning modalities have the most influence on the development of managerial competencies in family businesses. The organizational learning modalities are grouped into two approaches: individual-cognitive and socio-practical. A quantitative approach was used, and a survey was conducted with 165 managers. The results indicate that individual-cognitive organizational learning modalities, such as training, do not have a positive relationship with the development of managerial competencies in the family businesses studied. On the contrary, the surveyed managers develop their managerial skills, except for reflective skills, through all types of socio-practical modalities, with mentoring being particularly effective.
