Entrepreneurial ecosystems (EEs) have received increased attention both in academia and from policymakers. Higher education institutions (HEIs) are considered among the most impactful organizations in EEs. Additionally, to their traditional roles of research and education, HEIs are expected to be active stakeholders in the regional provision of support activities towards the creation of new ventures in society, becoming entrepreneurial universities (EUs). Despite the increasing number of studies on EUs, there is still room for learning from case studies, especially when focused on leading universities closely connected to regional EEs. This is the case of Utrecht University in the Netherlands. Thus, the focus of this study was concerned with describing the role of this university, through its offer of a wide variety of entrepreneurial activities in the Utrecht region’s entrepreneurial ecosystem.
