Abstract

This article aims to reflect about the Povo de Israel - an organization formed by detainees in prisons in Rio de Janeiro - from its emergence as a form of "mutual protection association" to the identification of "political commodities" that present themselves in the context of a prison located in the Metropolitan Region of Rio de Janeiro. Moreover, the reflections presented count on the "solução" as the main thread for the analyses about the practices of conflict administration and maintenance of the "monopoly of the use of force". In this way, I tried to present categories and practices of the "Rael" as a way to understand how sociability develops in the studied prison, evidencing that prison is not a "parallel world" or "separated" from society as a whole.
