Abstract

In An Amazonian Identity in Displacement: Work With Hammocks, the hammock was an object of interest. Since the arrival of europeans in Brazil, both because of novelty and usefulness, this indigenous invention has been for writers and personalities, a theme of many texts. In a letter to Portugal, Pero Vaz de Caminha mentioned its presence with enthusiasm. Since then, the portuguese settlers wives started to adapt it, adding ornamental balconies, taking for themselves the local custom.
