Abstract
The objective of this research was to present systems for raising goats and sheep on the Island of São Luís-MA, from February to April 2021. The study was descriptive, exploratory and qualitative-quantitative, with a sample of 80 rural producers selected by the Snowball technique. The main results were: a) rural producer profile: 93.75% male; level of education: Complete High School and Complete Higher Education, with 23.75% (19) for each degree; age group between 25 and 60 years in 86.25% (69) of respondents and 88.75% (71) of respondents do not participate in any affiliation. b) rural properties: 73.75% (59) with a semi-extensive rearing system; sheds present in 76.25% (61) of the properties. c) animals: 40% (32) of the creations have a consortium between goats and sheep, 32.5% (26) only sheep and 27.5% (22) only goats; vaccination in 61.25% (49); The main cause of death identified in animals is verminosis in 58.75% (47). It is concluded that the conflict in the creation of local goats and sheep is the lack of technical knowledge and hygienic-sanitary management, favoring the appearance of parasitic and/or infectious diseases. The knowledge of the production chain is essential for improving the quality of life of animals and improving the production and productivity of the creation systems.
