The artistic interface: the rap and literature in dialogues

Abstract

This article analyzes the relationship between rap music and Angolan literature, since these two forms of art, in the context under analysis, dialogue, hence the need to look at the dialogues they establish. In fact, this issue is inherent to art, so it is nothing new to talk about dialogues between texts, even if they are separated in time and space. To this end, it starts from studies on the relationships between artistic discourses in the works of Mikhail Bakhitin and Julia Kristeva, finding the specificities of these relationships in rap and literature, considering that both forms of art emerge from the artist’s everyday imagination and social experience, political and cultural. The texts analyzed are by the Angolan rapper MCK and the Angolan writers Boaventura Cardoso and Jofre Rocha. The results point to the intersection between the arts and how artists use their productions to address social, economic and political issues in their communities. The writers Boaventura Cardoso and Jofre Rocha and the rapper MCK performance an important role in Angolan society, helping them in the fight, to rethink Angola, from the perspective of a better country for everyone, regardless of ethnic, religious, racial, ideological and political differences.
