This article will discuss the book Que importa a fúria do mar, the fictional debut of Ana Margarida de Carvalho, a contemporary Portuguese author. Based on the fictionalization of a historical event — the arrest of the insur-gents of January 18th, 1934, in Marinha Grande, who two years later would be involved in the construction of the Tarrafal concentration camp —, the book by the Portuguese author develops the themes of resistance, memory and testimony. In order to investigate the way in which Ana Margarida de Carvalho gives voice to the defeated, the fragmentations present in her work will be analyzed, both in the field of narrative, with the interweaving of different historical contexts.
