This work intends to analyze some images and meanings attributed to deafness in two chronicles of Portuguese writer António Lobo Antunes: “Não foi com certeza assim mas faz de conta” (2002) and “O surdo” (1998). We are also interested in the type of creation of these texts, drawing a parallel with the kind of reflection developed in some writings of Walter Benjamin, basically in “One-way street” and “Berlin childhood”. In both authors, the fictional production is linked to the issue of memory, taking as its starting point the contact with a seemingly simple everyday object. Finally, we emphasize the discussion of the normalization of bodies, based on the issue of not hearing and how it is socially perceived.
