The present text analyzes the Mozambican socialist experience represented in Crônica da Rua 513.2, by Joao Paulo Borges Coelho, arguing that the author’s literary project, and of this specific work, questions the post-independent official history indicating silences and proposing other memories. Through the triad of Unity, Work and Surveillance, the article goes through the daily transformations of a common street in Maputo, Rua 513.2, during the process of transition between colonialism and the building of socialism, considering the most varied relations established between a group of neighbors (new and old) with the new postcolonial political order. The main objective of the text is to analyze the potentiality of the literature of Borges Coelho and his constant exercise of expansion of Mozambican history indicating a visceral relationship between human sciences and literature.
