This paper intends to demonstrate that, in Camões’s period, the sonnet was also sung, with musical accompaniment, a practice that contradicts the traditional concept of a “divorce between music and poetry”. To show this, the courtly scenario is explored through the discussion of the vihuela books, LuísMilán’s El Cortesano and Jorge de Montemayor’s La Diana.Downloads
