This article belongs to the literary field, and its aim is to introduce some facts concerned to the importance and the conception of the first systemic literary project about African literatures published in Brazil by Ática publishing company, i. e., Coleção de Autores Africanos (1979-1991). This anthology was coordinated by the Ph.D. Professor Fernando Augusto Albuquerque Mourão, during the administration of Anderson Fernandes Dias, president at the time of the referred publishing house. Thus, by analyzing some of the 27 books that are part of the Collection, the testimonies of Mourão, the articles in some newspapers, such as Jornal do Brasil, we will highlight this crucial production of African titles that arrived in Brazil.
