Effects of domestic violence against women on the incidence of depressive disorder on Brazil
Abstract
The article analyzed the relationship between self-reported domestic violence against women and a diagnosis of depression in Brazil, as well as examining this relationship according to the socioeconomic and demographic variables of the victimized women. To this end, microdata from the 2019 National Health Survey was used, containing information on households and access to and use of health services. The data obtained was explored by estimating a Probit econometric model. The results showed that women victimized by domestic violence were more likely to be diagnosed with depression, which represents a contribution to the state of the art on the subject.
