WOMEN, FOOTBALL AND PREJUDICES OF GENDER AND SEXUALITY IN SOCIAL MEDIA
Abstract
The article analyzes, based on the categories of gender and sexuality, the comments made by readers of the "ZH Esportes" Facebook page regarding structuring and dissemination of results of women's soccer team games associated with Sport Club Internacional and Grêmio Football Porto-alegrense. The time frame span is from January to October 2017. Amidst criticism and encouragement for women's soccer, misogynistic ridicule, as well as homophobic taunts, that were devoid of any acknowledgement of the athletes themselves, a context of negligence and invisibility of women was observed, even when they constituted the central subjects of the featured news articles.
