We address the specificities of the work of the men and women street sweepers, self-styled carreiros and vassoureiras, linked to the Department of Public Cleaning of Manaus-AM and who carry out the night sweeping of public places in the Historic Center of the city. This is an empirical, qualitative and descriptive research, carried out through interviews and daily monitoring of the street sweepers during their activities. We identified a clear gender distinction in the category's work environment, related to the division of labor, social rights, labor rights, and symbolism. In addition, there are prejudices and social disparities that result in social invisibility, which can harm work-life balance.
